Just installed 8.5.1 on a new computer (Windows 10) and also did the large download of Sibelius Sounds. I let the install process put the files where it wanted to. Sibelius is in C:/Program Files/Avid and Sibelius Sounds loaded into C:/Program Files (x86)/Avid/Sibelius Sounds/Sibelius Sounds. Sibelius Sounds doesn't show up in the Configuration listing or under Setup in Available Devices.

Yes, but in reading other posts that shouldn't matter. The Sibelius 7 Sounds should appear in configuration after installation.

Under audio engine options, what are the vst folders? (Click on the folders button and see what is there). try re-scanning for vsts.

So, in Setup, what is listed under Active devices?

Also, Right click on the Sibelius desktop icon. Select Properties. It should say that Sibelius starts in "C:\Program Files\Avid\Sibelius 8.5". If it says Program Files x86 instead of just Program Files, You are starting the wrong exe. I think Sibelius still installs both a 32 and 64 bit version. Sometimes the instillation would put the wrong exe. on the desktop. Worth a shot.

I think Bob has hit it on the head. 32 bit sib will not 'see' a 64 bit VSTi and vice versa!

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to give me feedback!
1) Under Audio Engine Options, only thing listed is C:\Program Files\Avid\VSTPlugins.
2) In Setup, under active devices, only thing listed is "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth"
3) When I right click on the desktop icon and go to Properties, the target is C:\Program Files\Avid\Sibelius\Sibelius.exe

In the top left corner of the Playback Devices window Is a pulldown menue labled Configuration. If it says "General Midi (basic)" select the down arrow and, hopefully, Sibelius sounds will be a choice. If not you may need to search you computer to make sure the folder is there. It's some 36 GB's .
Another question. Do you get sound at all. You get something with general midi. If not you may need to try different audio drivers in Audio Engine Options.
Again, in the Playback Devices window My Sib 7.5 (hope yous is close):
Configuration = Sibelius 7 sounds (other choices also)
Available Devices = Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth (grayed out)
Active Devices = Device/Sibelius player
Type/Sibelius
Sound Set/Sibelius 7 Sounds
If I change the configuration to Microsoft GS wavetable, then that is what is in Active devices.

Yes, most of the time all this gets set up automatically. I'm still trying to remember how to make Sibelius find the sound folder.

Another thought. Antivirus and anti-malware software has gotten more aggressive towards non-microsoft-store installations.
Disable your AV program before trying a re-installation. If you are using Macafee, get rid of it. It is known to damage Sibelius.

Thanks Bob.

I didn't install MacAfee and no AV software was running during installation.

Sibelius Sounds doesn't show up anywhere (Configuration, Active Devices, etc.). It is loaded where the installation process loaded it (34.3G).

I upgraded to Sib 2018.1 and that solved the issue. No idea why. Thanks all!

Someone on another forum had a similar problem. It's not the library that was missing, but the xml file that holds the configuration.

Hi, I'm a totally new user. I'm trying Sibelius First as a trial, prior to buying the full version, I need to make sure this all works on a new Windows 10 PC. Like the previous member, nothing is appearing in the playback configurations drop down menu. I have pointed to the folder with the Sibelius Sounds .XML from within the Audio Engine Options window, I have selected the Realtek (DS) output device. Sounds work on the laptop - but nothing when I select play in Sibelius.

Richard,

Unless things have changed, trial versions of Sibelius don't come with sounds. Instead the trial uses General midi sounds already on your computer. I seem to remember cases where a PC didn't have GM sounds, but it's kind of rare. AFAIK the vast majority of people run Sibelius on W10 without issue.

Trial versions only use the GM sounds on your computer, and so does Sibelius First, as it's so stripped down.
